Amazon Web Services is seeking Senior Electrical Engineers to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the implementation and technical evaluation of our designs and the continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
Engineers at Amazon: Work to design resilient, cost effective electrical distribution systems. Are responsible for achieving a world-class uptime for our customers. They justify and communicate the technical decisions we make to Sr. Management and work hard to drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs. They drive change and define/design the systems our customers rely on.
They have hands on electrical design and field experience and can design and operate electrical systems, have an understanding of the critical equipment needs for a data center, and understand the constructability of varying designs. As we grow, we are structuring our team to own more of our engineering in house. At Amazon, teamwork is absolutely necessary for us to accomplish our goals. You must be able to work within a team and depend on others to accomplish the required work. As an electrical engineer at Amazon, you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
As an Engineer in this role, you will work with the Principals and Senior Electrical Engineers to drive the standardization of designs across the global region in production data centers and resolve open technical issues in the electrical space. You will participate in the research and development of new technologies and designs applicable to our products or services. Relied on as a subject matter expert in the electrical engineering field, you write technical documentation for such projects. You also get to TRAVEL!!! International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary and should be no more than 30%.
Your tasks include conceiving, initiating and leading projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation and implementation. You will achieve this by breaking down complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions. This will be achieved by working with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges as well as collaborating with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures and countries. You will escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.
Part of the role will also include the review and approval of critical equipment submittals including vendor Witness Tests, provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE’s), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans. You will also be expected to maintain and host technical electrical forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of datacenter electrical systems.
As well as provide support and mentorship for the whole of the DCC engineering community, all while having fun and offering creative, out of the box solutions.
Key job responsibilities:
- Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, drawings, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports
- Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Electrical Basis of Design (BoD) by driving standardization in the data center electrical designs
- Development of strategic solutions, which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements; capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions
- Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during innovation and research and development projects
- Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment
- Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions
