Embedded Software Engineer for Automation Products (m/f)

PETKUS Design d.o.o. is looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to work on the development of advanced automation equipment for the electronics manufacturing and semiconductor industries. In this role, you will take technical ownership of the embedded software domain – from selecting the computing platform and defining the software architecture to integrating machine vision, motion control, electronics and mechanics. Your main responsibilities will include: - defining software architecture, technology choices and development standards - selecting and integrating computing platforms such as SBCs, industrial PCs and microcontrollers - implementing communication protocols between embedded systems, sensors and actuators - developing computer vision solutions in Python/OpenCV for object detection and pose estimation - developing motion control software for stepper- and servo-driven axes, including closed-loop and visual-servoing functionality - defining interfaces between software, electronics and mechanical systems - developing and maintaining modular, well-documented software - commissioning, calibration and debugging directly on physical machines - working closely with mechanical and mechatronic engineering teams Your first major project will be the development of embedded software for a new SMT pick-and-place machine, using camera-based object detection, a motorized XY gantry and automated component feeding. This is a long-term, full-time position with a high level of technical responsibility and the opportunity to actively shape the software architecture, technology choices and development standards for future automation products

- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience - English language proficiency at B2 level or higher - Strong software engineering skills in C++, C# and/or Python - Practical experience with computer vision / OpenCV, including image processing, feature extraction and calibration - Good understanding of motion control, real-time systems and closed-loop control - Experience with training or fine-tuning machine learning models for object detection or classification - Ability to design and document interfaces between software, electronics and mechanics - Strong affinity for open-source tools and development practices - Independent, structured and responsible way of working - Willingness to work hands-on with physical machines, commissioning and debugging Nice to have: - GUI development experience, e.g. Qt - PCB design experience, e.g. KiCad - Experience with cameras and industrial vision hardware
