Opis posla

The Protocol Assistant provides support on protocol affairs and host-country etiquette, serving as administrative support for the Executive Office and other sections and agencies at post. The jobholder advises the Chief of Mission (COM) and Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) on protocol matters, liaising with senior representatives from local government, political, military, and social sectors to facilitate smooth diplomatic interactions. Key responsibilities include coordinating Front Office events, maintaining the Mission-wide contact database, and engaging with host government officials, the diplomatic community, and key public and private-sector contacts. The jobholder also schedules meetings, handles official correspondence, supports VIP visits, and performs translation, interpretation, and administrative tasks as needed. Additionally, jobholder collaborates with Official Residence Expense (ORE) staff, chauffeurs, protective staff, and other Mission personnel on official functions, attending representational events to assist with etiquette-related matters, introductions, and language facilitation. The jobholder ensures all events and engagements uphold proper protocol standards, reflecting the Mission's commitment to professionalism and cultural sensitivity.

Education Requirements: Completion of high school/secondary education required Experience: A minimum of three years' experience in administrative, secretarial, protocol, event management, or public relations. Language: English: Fluent; speaking/reading/writing, may include the ability to translate (will be tested) Croatian: Fluent; speaking/reading/writing, may include the ability to translate Job Knowledge: Good knowledge of host government protocol guidelines, general etiquette, and social mores of the host country. Knowledge of local customs, traditions, and protocol practices. Awareness of how the political structure of the host government and their U.S. relationship affect protocol affairs. Skills And Abilities: Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Familiarity with organizing and coordinating events, including logistics, scheduling, and execution of formal functions and ceremonies. Good written and spoken communication skills. Must demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Publisher. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, establish priorities, and work under pressure. Discretion and the ability to handle the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
