R&D Engineer – Mechanical Engineer (m/f)

Short Job Description:

We are looking for a skilled and motivated R&D Engineer to join our Technology & Analysis (T&A) team at Kongsberg Maritime. The ideal candidate will have experience in analytical and numerical analysis of structures, Computer-aided design (CAD), Finite Element Modelling (FEM), torsional vibration analysis (TVA) or experience in signal analysis like Condition Monitoring. The position involves working across all thruster products within the Kongsberg Maritime portfolio and collaborating with various teams across the organization. The workplace is in Croatia (Rijeka, Pula, or Split), with occasional trips abroad.

Tasks:

Perform structural numerical analysis, including FEM calculations, to support product development and validation.
Conduct torsional vibration analysis (TVC) for rotating machinery and propulsion systems.
Create reports and documentation based on analysis results and present findings to stakeholders.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal solutions and improvements in thruster design and performance.
Maintain and develop calculation tools and methodologies for analysis and verification.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and company guidelines in all calculations and reports.
Provide technical support and consultation within the organization related to FEM and TVC.
Participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives and continuous learning within the team.

Important Knowledge/Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience in numerical analysis of structures, including FEM calculations.
Knowledge and experience in vibration analysis, like condition monitoring of rotating machinery or previous experience in running torsional vibration analysis (TVA) are highly desirable.
Proficiency in FEM software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar tools.
Understanding of propulsion systems and rotating machinery is a plus.
Knowledge of CAD tools (NX, Inventor, or similar) and ACAD.
Strong skills in MS Office applications.
Excellent spoken and written English skills.
Previous work experience in a similar role is preferred.
