Job description

Independent development of advanced ship system design drawings and specifications, ensuring alignment with complex project requirements, regulatory standards, and industry innovations.
Take ownership of designing and overseeing complex ship designs.
Use of CAD (AutoCad, Rhinoceros or similar) and other relevant engineering software to create and modify ship theory documentation.
Perform advanced engineering calculations and developing technical documentation for initial and basic ship design, always validating design integrity and compliance with the required safety and operational standards.
Support engineering teams, providing guidance on integrating ship theory and optimization into vessel designs, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
Ensure that all design and engineering activities meet industry standards, classification society rules, and client specifications, while proactively identifying areas for improvement.
Develop and implement quality control frameworks, ensuring that all design outputs and engineering processes meet required standards and specifications.
Support design reviews and audits, addressing potential issues and discrepancies early in the process, and guiding the team to resolve these effectively.
Collaborate with senior department leads and quality assurance teams to refine design processes, integrating feedback and ensuring continuous improvements.
Act as the point of contact for communicating with various stakeholders, ensuring clear, timely, and strategic communication that supports project success.
Provide strategic oversight on the incorporation of updated maritime regulations into design practices, setting best-in-class standards.
Supervise and actively participate in the preparation of technical documentation and reports, ensuring that these are comprehensive, accurate, and tailored to both internal and external stakeholders.
Development and refinement of design standards and guidelines within the organization, ensuring consistency and innovation across all projects.
Provide expert technical oversight during the construction and testing phases, proactively resolving technical challenges and ensuring alignment with design intent.
Support technical design team meetings, contributing strategic insights and problem-solving approaches to enhance design outcomes.
Evaluate new materials and emerging technologies, assessing their potential integration into vessel designs, and guiding the team in exploring innovative solutions.
Ensure accurate, up-to-date project records and documentation available to all required team members maintaining an overview of project progress.

Skills and qualifications

Master’s, PhD, or recognized equivalent in structural, marine, ocean engineering, or naval architecture.
A minimum of 5 years of work experience or an equivalent combination of advanced education and work experience after graduation is preferred.
Experience with CAD software (NAPA experience is an advantage).
Ability to perform various calculations related to ship performance and stability.
Excellent knowledge of maritime engineering principles.
Project management experience is an advantage.
Ability to document requirements and specifications.
Knowledge of structural reliability is an advantage.
Excellent English language skills, German is advantage.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
