Position Overview

Senior Data Scientist (m/f) – Maritime Center of Excellence (MCoE) Senior Data Scientist will serve as a technical cornerstone within our maritime innovation ecosystem. In this role, you will analyze, model, and interpret highly complex datasets to drive advanced research, engineering, and strategic innovation initiatives. Operating at the intersection of maritime engineering and cutting-edge data science, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of engineers, researchers, and developers. Your expertise will be vital in transforming raw data into scalable predictive models and production-ready intelligence that redefines maritime operations.

CORE responsibilities

Technical Leadership & AI Engineering

Analyze intricate business and research challenges, translating them into robust, high-performing solutions aligned with strategic organizational goals.
Design, develop, validate, and continuously monitor production-ready AI models, ensuring peak operational performance.
Architect, implement, and optimize data engineering pipelines to enhance the accuracy, reliability, and scalability of intelligence systems.
Partner closely with software engineering teams to seamlessly integrate and deploy AI solutions into live environments and applications.

Advanced Data Analytics & Quality

Conduct advanced statistical analysis on large, complex, and heterogeneous datasets originating from maritime telemetry, vessel automation, and research systems.
Enforce data quality, consistency, and reliability across all projects, ensuring data assets remain trustworthy and secure.
Champion high-quality software engineering standards by writing clean, maintainable code and conducting rigorous peer reviews.

Communication & Strategic Mentorship

Act as a technical mentor for incoming junior team members, establishing best practices, accelerating onboarding, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Translate highly technical data insights and predictive analytics into clear, actionable recommendations for both technical colleagues and non-technical stakeholders.
Author and maintain comprehensive technical documentation to preserve institutional knowledge and support systemic scalability.

Qualifications & Competencies

5+ professional experience in Data Science or advanced analytics
Proven experience in building production-ready systems, including hands on work with embedding models, retrieval pipelines, and LLM techniques.
Strong proficiency in Python and Object-Oriented Programming languages
Strong foundation in statistics, machine learning algorithms, and data modeling
Experience with PostgreSQL and vector databases
Familiarity with building and maintaining data pipelines, APIs, and production deployment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication and teamwork abilities
Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Commitment to documentation, clean work, and continuous learning
Strong affinity for the maritime industry, with an understanding of (or a desire to learn) industrial IoT, time-series telemetry, and marine engineering data
Natural aptitude for technical guidance, clear communication, and an eagerness to develop the talents of future junior colleagues
