Job description

Reports to: Primary reporting line to WWF Mura-Drava-Danube Executive Board, administrative line to WWF Adria Conservation Director for purely administrative things such as signing of travel forms, leave forms, etc. Place of work: WWF Adria, Croatia which includes travels across AT-SI-HU-HR-RS Mission Overarching vision of the regional MDD landscape initiative, shared by WWF-Adria, WWF-Austria and WWF-CEE, is to ensure effective transboundary protection, restoration, and sustainable management of the UNESCO Five- country Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube (TBR MDD) for the long-term conservation of its biodiversity, climate resilience and flow of ecosystem services, while supporting sustainable local livelihoods. The initiative builds up on the long-term WWF conservation work, experience, expertise and networks in the MDD region and aims to mobilize required expertise and coordinate the use of all available resources in collaboration with various partners to ensure effective protection, restoration and sustainable management and development. It will influence policy processes and mobilise best available scientific know-how, and foster innovative solutions to protect, restore, ensure climate resilience and sustainably manage ecosystems and sustainable development challenges in the landscape. Strategic Overview: - Ensure strategic alignment and coherence of WWF projects, programmes and activities in the transboundary MDD landscape - Identify and close capacity gaps - Identify threats and opportunities for the work of WWF in the region - Monitor and evaluate the impact of WWF projects, programmes and activities in the MDD landscape Major Duties and Responsibilities: a) Coordination and leverage overall MDD effort: - Manage communication/ flow of information between the three WWF offices (Adria, Austria and CEE) and WWF international - Coordinate and monitor stakeholder engagement (e.g. authorities, NGOs, donors, corporates) in the MDD landscape - Coordinate the implementation of projects in the MDD landscape and act as a “knowledge hub” for projects in the MDD landscape - Coordinate external communication activities (e.g. press work, events) - Coordinate the development of new projects and project fundraising b) Representation, Networking, Advocacy: - In close coordination with the three WWF offices Adria, Austria and CEE, - Represent WWF in the MDD region towards international and multilateral stakeholders - Engage with international and multilateral donors - Expand network and develop new partnerships - Advocate for the interests and needs of WWF‘s work in the MDD landscape - Act as spokesperson for WWF in the MDD region towards international media - Represent the MDD region within the global WWF network - Inform, engage and report to CEOs and Conservation Directors of the three WWF offices via the MDD steering group c) Facilitation: - Organize and facilitate regular meetings with the MDD the steering group and focal points in the three WWF offices Adria, Austria and CEE - Set up efficient and effective workflows and processes for WWF cooperation in the MDD region - Facilitate teamwork and team building activities

Required education, knowledge and skills

Minimum Qualifications - University degree in the broad area of environmental sciences and/or environmental management - At least 10 years of professional experience in project/programme management positions, of which at least 5 years in a leadership role, with demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams and multiple donor budgets - At least 10 years proven experience - Strong commitment in international conservation issues and approaches - Proven experience in program and policy development, negotiations with internal and external stakeholders, including experience in campaigning, business engagement, policy advocacy, and design and activation of strategic international partnerships - Strategic thinker, communicator and motivator - Experience in engaging donors, developing funding proposals, and managing multi-donor project financing - Experience with M&E systems at both the project and program level is essential - Proven experience and success in mobilizing and leading international virtual/hybrid teams - Proven experience of working with different cultures. Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization - Ability to work with and understand the perspectives of communications and marketing experts. Strong negotiating and lobbying skills - Good team work skills, multidisciplinary skills in technical program management and development and financial management - Excellent oral and written English communication skills; other languages: Croatian, Slovene, Hungarian, Serbian and German considered a strong asset - Broad knowledge of the Mura-Drava-Danube region geography, societies, economies, politics and pertinent issues of conservation and development - A good level of computer literacy, especially word-processing, budget and spreadsheet preparation, database record systems, electronic mail - An ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines - Understanding and applying WWF social and environmental safeguards - Committed to diversity and demonstrating WWF behaviours in way of working: Strive for Impact, Listen Deeply, Collaborate Openly, Innovate Fearlessly.
