In our Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department we are looking for an experienced scientist to join us in the role of:

Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist - Bioanalysis (m/f)

Place of work: Zagreb

The Bioanalytical team within DMPK plays a key role in evaluating test compounds by providing high-quality quantitative and qualitative data for both in vitro and in vivo studies, along with physicochemical characterization across a range of modalities. The group designs and applies LC-MS/MS methods, performs sample preparation and analysis, and interprets results to support decision-making across drug development stages. Team efforts focus on developing efficient sample extraction techniques, implementing laboratory automation, and creating rapid LC separations and mass spectrometry workflows to accelerate data delivery without compromising quality.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Investigate, evaluate, and implement new analytical methodologies and technologies to meet challenging assay requirements while maintaining effective resource utilization.
Lead the development, optimization, and implementation of LC-MS/MS bioanalytical methods for small molecules, peptides, biomarkers, and metabolites in complex biological matrices
Contribute to the development and optimization of analytical methods to support physicochemical assays for small molecules and peptides.
Perform and oversee laboratory activities including sample preparation and instrument operation across assigned studies; provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior scientists through direct, hands-on involvement in the lab
Routinely operate LC-MS/MS instrumentation, including maintenance, troubleshooting, identification and resolution of instrument and assay problem
Identification and structural elucidation of non-radiolabeled metabolites for small molecules in collaboration with other DMPK or medicinal chemistry teams.
Assist in the preparation of study proposals, statements of work, and cost estimates, coordinate timelines and resources for project execution
Explore, propose, and justify new/expanded service capabilities in conjunction with Scientific Staff
Pursue ongoing professional development by engaging in scientific training, presenting data, and staying current with advancements in the field

Your Background:

Graduate degree in analytical chemistry, chemistry, pharmacy or biotechnology
PhD in analytical chemistry preferred
Experience using or knowledge of LC-MS/MS techniques and sample preparation techniques. LC-MS/MS can be trained if familiar with other techniques
Computing skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets (e.g., Microsoft Office packages and Microsoft Project)
